My wife was recently honored with a distinguished award from Women in Ophthalmology - I’m so proud of her! She gave a talk that featured the concept of an “alert circle” that elephants in the wild, and even at the zoo, employ to protect the weakest members of their herd. Feeling incredibly inspired by this, I am reminded that although being a special needs parent feels extremely lonely at times, we actually do have an incredibly generous and loving network of family and family friends who eagerly help us through our most difficult time without hesitation.
